Before sunset at Costabella, Rijeka

When I was a bit younger, the vision of the perfect life I had for me looked something like this: living in London in one of those beautiful pastel houses in Notting hill, being a writer and a filmmaker and leading a chaotic lifestyle which involves loads of phone calls per day, running around from one event and project to another and not really giving damn about my personal life because, you know, I love my job so much.

It took me a few years to understand that I was a bit insane, right?
But when you're a teenager you're supposed to be silly.

I went to London, fell in love with it even more but after visiting loads of little coastal towns, enjoying the nature and exploring huge sandy beaches I realised one simple thing - I don't really want the mess of a huge city, what I want is the seaside.

I guess at some point that was bound to happen considering I was born near the sea. Seriously, one of the first things my dad told me when they brought me back home from the hospital was 'Look, Matea, that is the sea.' But since I never really enjoyed my hometown, I also never learned to appreciate the seaside in all its glory. Until I grew up a bit, saw a bit of the world and learned that the stuff I saw in the glossy magazines wasn't exactly what I want for me.

Like, I really wanted to walk around in heels all the time but deep down always knew that I feel the best when I'm in my beaten up Vans or Converse. That's my kind of glamour.

Nowdays all I want is the beach.
I can't get enough of it.
It's one of my happy places.
It's raw, authentic and doesn't tolerate any shit.
Waves come and go, the infinite blue changes its shades depending on the time of a day, point of view and weather.

And if you were to ask me what places in the world I'd love to explore the most, my answer would be islands, the ocean, beaches and shorelines. My heart beats the mediterranean way.
And, of course, my biggest life wish ever: to spend some time with pandas in their base in China. That would seriously be a dream come true.

P.S. If anyone from Vans somehow stumbles upon this post, read this: pretty please bring back these sneakers in stock, I've had them for more than five years and they're the comfiest and the coolest little sneakers in the world. Obviously they used to be black but we've gone through some crazy adventures together and it's a miracle they're still alive and kicking.

  2. It must be so lovely and relaxing living near the sea, just looking at these photos made me feel really calm! I used to live in London and once I moved away it was my goal for a few years to move back there and then after a while I realised I was actually happy where I am and I no longer want that bustle! Beautiful photos as always!

  3. Hello, I am living near the North Sea now and I can see the appeal. However my heart will be forever locked for lakes, especially not so popular one. There is something very calming about walks around them.

Iako sam uživala živjeti na moru godinu dana i koliko god volim more, život pored njega mi nije uvjet.
